The unwavering tenacity and consistency in the media profession, with track records of exclusive reporting of crime stories by the Lagos Bureau Chief of New Nigerian Newspapers Mr. Raymond Tedunjaye has once again being recognized,as he bags the award of ” Icon of Media Excellence Award In Innovative Journalism” in Lagos.
The award, presented at a colourful ceremony penultimate weekend at the prestigious Nigeria Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Ogba Lagos, was conferred on him the National Media Community Award, organised by the City Pride Media Communications.
The event was an evening of multiple applause from veteran journalists, senior police officers, business moguls and other guests who graced the occasion.
Other outstanding journalists, senior police officers and captains of industries were also honoured at the event, amongst them were the chairperson of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Lagos chapter, Mrs.Olatutu Oladunni, publisher of Atlantic news online, Frank Oshanugor, co- founder PM New Express Cyracus Izekwe, publisher of News Planet Emmanuel Edom amongst others.
Also bestowed with awards of different categories were ACP Nwachukwu Eburuaja, Commander Area “E” Command, ACP Gbenga Adeoye, Commander Area ” M” Command, Spokesperson Lagos State Police Command SP Benjamin Hundeyin and DPO Shasha Division SP. Toyin Omomobi and her Denton Division counterpart CSP Joseph Egwonu.
According to the organisers, the NNN Lagos Bureau Chief was recognised for his steadfast and modest contributions towards the development of journalism in Nigeria, especially through exclusive crime stories reportage.
It will be recalled that the seasoned and versatile journalist, a former Vice President of Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) and ex- SEC member, Lagos Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) had at one time or the other emerged as the most diligent crime reporter of the year 2018, bestowed on him by the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria and the Best Crime Reporter of the year 2020 confered on him by Crime Watch Magazine.
While delivering a paper on ” Roles of the Media In Nigeria, Socio- Political Development, Financial Stability and Security”, the guest speaker, Comrade Rotimi Ojamamoye articulated the indispensable role of the media in shaping Nigeria’s socio-political landscape, ensuring financial stability, and fortifying national security.
Ojamamoye underscored the media’s multifaceted role, portraying it as a reflective mirror of societal dynamics that significantly contributes to the nation’s progress.
With a focus on socio-political development, he emphasized the media’s capacity to shape opinions, foster debates, and disseminate crucial information to an engaged populace.
” Through investigative journalism, the media wields considerable influence in advocating for good governance, transparency, and accountability among leaders”, he emphasized.
