A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Apapa Constituency 2, Hon. Musibau Aina Lawal, has rolled out a free health insurance scheme for 300 constituents in the LASHMA Ilera Eko Health Insurance Scheme in a bold step at ensuring access to quality healthcare for the residents.
Similarly, cash gift of N50,000.00 each was also presented to 50 petty traders by the lawmaker to boost their trader.
Hon. Lawal made the presentation during the 10th Annual Constituency Stakeholders’ Engagement, held at the Secretariat of Apapa-Iganmu LCDA.
The Lagos State House of Assembly Stakeholders’ Meeting, themed ” Governance in Action: The Gains of the Renewed Hope Agenda” was held simultaneously in all the 40 constituencies of the State.
Lawal, who is the chairman House Committee on Health, said the package includes preventive services such as scaling and polishing.
He explained that the intervention is part of broader legislative priorities of the Assembly, centred on structural education, healthcare delivery, and youth empowerment.
While giving his stewardship, the lawmaker disclosed that he has facilitated employment for no fewer than 100 constituents and offered several assistance to the needy including victims of a recent fire incident in constituency.
In his speech delivered simultaneously at the meetings, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa disclosed that over 467 resolutions have been passed by the 10th Assembly till date.
Describing the passage of the resolutions as a testament to the active role of the Assembly in governance, the Speaker added that the Assembly has been instrumental in supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda through enabling legislations in various key areas such as environmental sustainability, housing, healthcare, education, civic engagement and security.
Hon. Obasa hinted that plans are underway for the establishment of University of Medicine and Health Sciences for the state, adding that a public hearing will be held on the bill by next week.
Commenting on the proposed medical school, Hon. Lawal said, “Many of our medical students travel overseas in search of greener pastures. Since they are not tied by any agreement, they are free to leave. This new university will help retain talent and strengthen our health sector,” he said.
In a welcome address at the occasion, the Executive Chairman of Apapa-Iganmu LCDA, Hon. Jimoh Olawale Saliu, expressed satisfaction at the interventions, describing the annual engagement as a vital platform for residents to voice concerns and influence policy.
