…bags Best Community Policing DPO 2024
If accolades, exaltations and charitable words are the major requirement for elevation to the next rank in the Nigeria Police, Chief Superintendent of Police CSP Joseph Egwuonwu would have by now being hanging the rank of an Assistant Commissioner of Police on his shoulder.
The carnival – like event, marking the launch of his book, held at the auditorium of the Assembly Church of God, Oyingbo, Ebute-Metta, Lagos, on Sunday, 16th June 2024, witnessed torrent of applause, encomium and exaltation on the professional and impactful excellence performances of the incorruptible police officer in his police career life spanning over three decades.
Undeniably, the event recorded a huge success, as it was marked by opulence and style, attracting collage of the creme-de-la-creme in business, banking sector and the social circles.
The colourful occasion had in attendance the host minister, Rev. Dr. G.C JoJo, a business mogul, Mr. Samuel Nnaemeka, Chief Jude Nwachukwu, an accountant Deacon Charles Oligbo FCA, Mr. Victor Chukwuogo, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police Adegoke Fayoade, ably represented by the DPO Bode Thomas Division CSP Nathaniel Ijaola, Baales, Ndigbo chiefs, Honda Motor Parts/ Machine Dealers Association, Oyingbo/Whitesand market leaders, Lagos State Command Chaplain CSP Ezekiel Ugbotor (Ven), leaders of Community Development Committee (CDC), Pastors/Immas Security Committee amongst others.
Also in attendance to honour one of their own are the DPO Isheri Division CSP Omomobi, DPO Soba Division, Officer In-charge Iddo Police Post, SP Bidemi, officers and men if Denton Division, members of the Christian Police Fellowship of Nigeria, Lagos State Command and many others.
The memorable event was kick- started with the unveiling and dedication of the CPFN Covenant Chapel built by CSP Egwuonwu within the premises of the Police Station, in fulfilment of his covenant with God when deployed as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the station by the then Lagos State Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alabi in year 2022.
To add colour to the ceremony, special musical numbers were rendered by Youth Choir /Band of the Assembly Church of God, Oyingbo -Ebute Metta, that kept both the celebrant, wife and guests dancing in a manner they’ve not before now.
Highlight of the event was the bestowing of an award of excellence on CSP Joseph Egwuonwu as the “Best Community Policing DPO of The Year 2024” by the management of The Unique Model Magazine, in recognition of his unwavering tenancy and consistency in professional and incorruptible policing job.

Several speakers at the occasion appreciated and applauded the celebrant, describing as a special breed, down- to- earth cop, who police with the fear of God.
According to them, CSP Egwuonwu changed the face of policing at the Division and made police more seamless to access, even as he acclaimed to detest bribe collection.
In an outpouring of encomium, Deacon Charles Oligbo FCA, described CSP Egwuonwu as an excellence person of great distinction, a man of impeccable character, who he stands out amongst his peers.
“Not looking like a policeman in conduct, he’s a man that has set the standard. He’s a man that stands for righteousness and godliness, even in his place of work.”, Deacon asserts.
While extolling the celebrant, Mr. Samuel Nnaemeka described him as a man of excellence and of an unspeakable character.
He also described him as a detribalised officer, who believes in justice, equity and fairness.
His words, ” In him, I have seen a man who’s not talking about money, but about rendering genuine service, all he was concerned about is rendering service according to his religious calling, he has done well.
In her own words of exaltation, the DPO Isheri Division CSP Omomobi posited that Egwuonwu is a team player and God personified human being, who always stands for what is right.
In her vote of thanks, wife of the celebrant Mr. Joy Egwuonwu appreciated all the guests for honouring the occasion and for their handsome donations towards the book launch, praying that God almighty will bless and reward them accordingly.
While extolling her husband, Mrs. Egwuonwu gave a colourful background of his husband’s Christian life journey, describing him as faithful and trustworthy man, imbibed with Christ-like character.
Mrs. Egwuonwu said she has always referred her husband as a pastor, even to his father, before his ordination as a pastor because of his god fearing attitude.
” My husband is a straightforward person in all his dealings. I’ve always call him pastor even before he was ordained as one. When I wanted to introduce him to my father, I did as well.” the elated Mrs. Egwuonwu enthused.
While justifying the award of excellence bestowed on CSP Egwuonwu by the Unique Model Magazine, the Editor-in-Chief Mr. Raymond Tedunjaye noted that the beneficiary was carefully selected for the honour based on his uncanny performances in demystifying criminals, reduction and crimes to the barest minimum and restoration of peace in Ebute-metta and its environ.
As a crime reporter, the seasoned journalist stressed that journalists covering the police affairs beat have been monitoring the conducts and activities of CSP Egwuonwu right, from his days as a junior officer at the Command Headquarter, adding that he was found to be upright and incorruptible.
