The President-General of Igbo Speaking Community, Lagos State, High Chief Chukwudi Chinye has described the Patron of the community, Chief Innocent Nwaogwugwu, as a pillar and man of integrity whose contributions have sustained the body over the years.
High Chief Chinye stated this when Chief Nwaogwugwu hosted the new executive council of the community in his office in Lagos.
According to Chinye, Chief Nwaogwugwu’s guidance, financial support and fatherly role have remained the backbone of the Igbo Speaking Community, Lagos.
“We celebrate you today as our pillar. You are a man of integrity. Your contributions, guidance and financial support have sustained this great body over the years. You have been a father to us all,” Chinye said.
He thanked the patron for the lavish reception accorded the executive and assured him that his administration would continue to promote unity, peace and progress among Ndigbo in Lagos.
“We are committed to an inclusive administration that will carry every member along, promote the welfare of Ndigbo and project our people positively in Lagos State,” the President-General assured.
Earlier in his remarks, Chief Nwaogwugwu charged the executives to make unity and peace their watchword, noting that no organisation can succeed in an atmosphere of rancour and division.
“My advice is simple. Continue to work in unity. Let peace, love and understanding guide your actions. The Igbo Speaking Community is one big family and we must live as one,” the patron said.
Chief Nwaogwugwu praised High Chief Chinye for providing purposeful and people-oriented leadership and for bringing stability and progress to the community since assuming office.
He described Chinye as a humble and visionary leader with the capacity to manage the affairs of Ndigbo in Lagos State, which he noted is home to millions of Ndigbo contributing immensely to its development.
He pledged his continuous support to the executive and promised to always offer useful advice and assistance to move the community forward.
The reception, which was well-attended, ended with prayers for the peace and progress of the Igbo Speaking Community, for peace in Igboland and for the continued progress of Lagos State.
In all, the meeting was a celebration of unity, mutual respect and leadership. It once again reaffirmed the bond between the patron and the executive, and the collective resolve to build a stronger, more united and more progressive Igbo Speaking Community that will continue to promote Igbo culture, protect the interest of Ndigbo and contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of Lagos State.
The Igbo Speaking Community, Lagos, remains the umbrella body of Ndigbo resident in Lagos, comprising members from the five South Eastern states and Igbo-speaking areas of Delta and Rivers States.
