The Executive Chairman of Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Jimoh Olawale Saliu, is participating in the ongoing Annual General Assembly of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), holding at the Abuja Continental Hotel, Abuja.

His participation underscores Apapa-Iganmu LCDA’s engagement in national discussions on local government administration, grassroots development and the implementation of local government autonomy.

The Assembly brings together local government chairmen and other key stakeholders from across the country to deliberate on critical issues affecting the third tier of government, with particular emphasis on financial independence, effective governance and improved service delivery at the grassroots.

Among the prominent dignitaries attending the meeting are the National President of ALGON, Engr. Hon. Bello Lawal, Chairman of Kaita Local Government Area, Katsina State, his predecessor, Hon. Aminu Mu’azu Maifata, Lagos State ALGON Chairman and the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa.

A major focus of the Assembly is the implementation of local government autonomy following the Supreme Court judgment on the financial independence of local governments.

The meeting also provides a platform for local government leaders to exchange ideas on strengthening grassroots governance and improving service delivery in critical sectors, including primary healthcare, agriculture, education and community security.

Hon. Jimoh’s presence at the national gathering offers an opportunity for Apapa-Iganmu LCDA to be part of broader conversations on policies and administrative reforms aimed at strengthening local government institutions and enhancing their capacity to respond to the needs of residents.

The ALGON Annual General Assembly remains an important forum for local government leaders to deliberate on common challenges, share experiences and consider strategies for more effective administration and sustainable grassroots development across Nigeria.
