Grassroots Mobilization, Cultural Pride and Unity Define New Era for Ndigbo in Lagos
By The Unique Model Magazine
The spirit of Ndigbo came alive at Abesan Stadium, Alimosho, as Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State held its 2nd General Assembly Meeting under the visionary leadership of President High Chief Leonard Okafor and with the strategic support of Super High Chief, Onowu Harvey Mac Ejere, Onowu Ugo n’abo na Alimosho.
From market women across LGAs and LCDAs, to businessmen, youths, traditional rulers, men of God and stakeholders from across Nigeria, the gathering was a powerful demonstration of Igbo identity, unity and cultural pride — just as it was in ancient times when an Igbo man was easily recognized by tradition anywhere in the world.
This assembly confirms one truth: Under President Okafor and with patriots like Onowu Harvey Mac Ejere, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos is experiencing a renaissance.
LEADERSHIP THAT DELIVERS: THE OKAFOR EFFECT
Since emerging as President, High Chief Leonard Okafor has redefined Ohanaeze leadership through inclusive governance, grassroots engagement, and purposeful vision.
The pilot meeting in Ejigbo recorded a massive turnout. The Abesan meeting doubled that impact. Politicians, Yoruba leaders, and other tribes attended — proof that Ndigbo are now being sought after and respected.
THE PILLAR OF SUPPORT: ONOWU HARVEY MAC EJERE, ONOWU UGO N’ABO NA ALIMOSHO
At the center of this success is Super High Chief Onowu Harvey Mac Ejere, a philanthropist and custodian of Igbo tradition.
Speaking exclusively to The Unique Model Magazine, Onowu Harvey Mac Ejere, Onowu Ugo n’abo na Alimosho, firstly became Onowu Agbado Oke Odo for the past 3 years, was crowned the title of Onowu Ugo n’abo of Alimosho under the leadership of Eze Ndigbo of Alimosho in the person of Eze Lawrence Nnamdi, described President Okafor as “a complete human being” and commended his leadership.
“Since he emerged, you can see how he is pulling crowds. Today we had over 2,000 people from different tribes. It is very commendable. God will continue to bless Chief Leonard Okafor,” Onowu Harvey Mac Ejere said.
On why he invested heavily in the meeting:
“It is love for Ohanaeze Ndigbo. We are the custodians of Ndigbo tradition. We must invest our time, money and energy to ensure Ohanaeze flourishes and grows from strength to strength.”
AGENDA FOR THE FUTURE
Onowu Harvey Mac Ejere praised President Okafor’s grassroots agenda:
“He is taking Ohanaeze to every Local Government and LCDA. Last time Oshodi-Isolo, today Alimosho. He is doing wonderfully well.”
On peace among Igbo groups:
“He called for unity before becoming President and achieved it. In every 12 people there is a Judas. Those refusing to join should step aside and let the President’s tenure run.”
On preserving Igbo culture:
“Some Ndieze have opened free Igbo-speaking schools in Lagos. Other prominent Igbos are contributing. Our culture must remain.”
On Yoruba-Igbo relations:
“Yorubas are the owners of the land. We must live together. In my kindred alone, over 20 Yoruba women are married to our men. We are one Nigeria.”
On welfare:
“President Okafor has plans for widows, youths and the less-privileged. I have discussed it with him. Something will be done soon.”
His final charge:
“All Ndigbo should come together. With one mind we can do business, progress, and develop our land.”
Conclusively, the Abesan assembly was more than a meeting. It was a declaration of Igbo resurgence in Lagos.
Through the transformational leadership of President High Chief Leonard Okafor and the selfless patriotism of Super High Chief Harvey Mac Ejere, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos is being repositioned for greatness.
With grassroots mobilization, cultural preservation, inter-tribal harmony, and welfare programs in focus, Ndigbo in Lagos are no longer spectators. They are stakeholders, and they are ready.
This is leadership. This is unity. This is the new Ohanaeze.
