In a bid to alleviate the suffering of residents due to the removal of the fuel subsidy in Nigeria, the Executive Chairman of Ifelodun LCDA, Mayor Olufemi Akanbi Okeowo, has been distributing food palliatives to those in need.
The program, which started in October 2023, has now reached its 10th edition, with 1,000 food palliatives distributed across all seven political wards every month. This initiative has brought hope to many residents who were struggling to make ends meet.
But that’s not all. Okeowo has also implemented other measures to support the community. 500 youths, 500 aged individuals, and 250 young families receive ₦10,000 monthly stipends to help them cope with the economic hardship. Additionally, the LCDA has provided free healthcare for those with special health challenges.
The impact of these initiatives has been significant. Residents who were once struggling to survive are now able to feed their families and access medical care when needed. The program has also helped to reduce tensions in the area, with many residents choosing not to join protests due to the support they are receiving from the LCDA.
Okeowo’s efforts have been praised by many, who see him as a leader who truly cares about his people. His initiatives have brought hope to a community that was once on the brink of despair.
As one resident said, “We are grateful for Mayor Okeowo’s kindness. He has shown us that there are still good leaders in Nigeria who care about our well-being.”
