The management of Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN) Oron, has asserted that it parades world class training facilities for the training of its students and cadets.
It added that the Academy boasts of simulators which are in line the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification & Watch keeping for Seafarers 1978 as amended.
Presenting a paper titled Maritime Academy of Nigeria “Ensuring Efficient Manpower in Nigeria Maritime industry, Strategies and Options”, at the 2025 AMJON Conference Thursday in Lagos, the Ag. Rector of the Academy Dr. Kevin Okonna hinted that the Academy has four functional Simulators, namely the Multi-functional Classroom Simulator, the Full Mission Bridge Simulator, Full Mission Engine Room, and the Ocular Vision Simulators.
Emphasizing that the vision of the Academy is to be internationally recognised as a centre of excellence in Maritime Education and Training, the MAN boss noted that the institution is committed to consistently providing the merchant navy, the maritime industry and allied industries with high-quality education and training that accords with up-to-date technology, meets national and international standards and satisfies or exceeds customers’ expectations.
Represented at the occasion by the Academy’s Public Relations Officer,Domo Umoekpe, the Ag. Rector disclosed that the Academy has three Schools, namely School of Engineering, School of Maritime Transport Studies and School of Nautical Studies, where programmes are offered at both National Diploma and Higher National Diploma levels.
According to him, the Academy also has a Specialised Seafarers Training Centre, where Management Courses as well as Professional Short Courses in Certificate of Competency, in accordance with the STCW 78 (as amended) for personnel of the maritime industry and allied industries, are on offer.
