Apapa Iganmu LCDA Helmsman Hon. Jimoh Saliu Tasks Youth On Commitment To Community Development, Leadership

Newly elected executive members of the Apapa-Iganmu LCDA branch of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) have been urged to prioritise community development and effective leadership.

The executive chairman of the LCDA Hon. Jimoh Olawale Saliu gave the charge in a key note speech at the election /inauguration ceremony of the newly elected officers, held at the Anago hall of the local government secretariat.

Equally, in his unwavering commitment to youth development, the council boss announced a gesture of sponsoring four youth for football coaching course and stadium management at the Nigeria Institute for Sports.

Hon. Jimoh also implored them to shun cultism, hooliganism, prostitution, and drug abuse, warning that the vices destroy futures and communities.  ⁣⁣⁣⁣

Equally, he charged them to ensure that the inauguration exercise mark the beginning of a new era of purposeful youth leadership, active participation, and sustainable community development in their career.

He reflected on his historical journey as the pioneer president of NYCN Apapa branch, submitting that it aided his ascension to the position of the council chairman.

The milestone, according to him is a clear proof that youth participation is not just a slogan, but a powerful ladder to genuine leadership and community transformation.

His words, “As the first President of the NYCN Apapa Branch, it gives me great fulfillment to witness this new chapter in our youth leadership journey.⁣⁣⁣⁣

“My own path began right here in the youth council. Through dedication, service, and a commitment to improving the lives of our young people in Apapa constituency. That foundation of youth activism, community development and leadership has today elevated me to serve as the Executive Chairman of Apapa-Iganmu LCDA.⁣⁣⁣⁣

“This is a clear proof that youth participation is not just a slogan, it is a powerful ladder to genuine leadership and community transformation.”

Speaking further, Hon. Jimoh emphasised that the new executive has a great role to play in driving youth participation, create opportunities, and serve as shining examples for generations to come.⁣⁣⁣⁣

” To this end, I have made it a priority to establish a dedicated Youth Department in our LCDA, one that will focus exclusively on unlocking opportunities for youth development, empowerment, skill acquisition, and leadership training.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

” I assure every young person here today: under my leadership, you will have enormous opportunities, both within our local community and in national and international spaces wherever they arise.⁣⁣⁣⁣

We will open doors and create platforms for you to shine “,⁣⁣⁣

Stressing that opportunity comes with responsibility, the council helmsman charged the new executives and all youth not to betray the trust placed in them, but  work collaboratively, round the table, to ensure excellent representation for the youth of Apapa-Iganmu.  ⁣⁣⁣⁣

Speaking at the occasion, the chairman of NYCN Lagos State chapter comrade Adigun Ibrahim charged the new coordinator Apapa Iganmu LCDA comrade Azeez Alamu to prioritise meritocracy and active participation by members.

He also enjoined him against using his position to promote negativity, but ensure peace, progress of the community.

” Don’t use your position as a negative influence to disrupt the peace, harmony, progress of the community.  Build a cordial relationship with critical stakeholders, you must collaborate and partner them, build a robust synergy that will be beneficial to the entire youth.

” Shun discrimination and partisanship, relate with all young people irrespective of party affiliation, but ensure you are just, firm and impartial “, the NYCN state chairman urged.

Adigun, also advised members of the branch to be loyal to the coordinator, emphasising that loyalty comes with sacrifice, perseverance, discipline and endurance.

Highlight of the event was the formal pronouncement of Hon. Jimoh Saliu as the patron of the LCDA branch of NYCN.
