Leadership Calls on Ndigbo in Lagos to Rally Behind Vision for Unity and Progress

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State has recorded unprecedented grassroots mobilization following the introduction of a new rotational General Monthly Assembly model by its President, Chief Leonard Okafor (Oba Ojoto).
The reform, which mandates that LGAs, LCDAs, their Chairmen, Ndindu, and community stakeholders take turns hosting the monthly assemblies, is already transforming the way Ndigbo in Lagos engage with the apex Igbo organization.
What was once a centralized gathering has now become a statewide movement, bringing Ohanaeze directly to the people and restoring a deep sense of belonging, ownership, and participation.
HISTORIC TURNOUT IN EJIGBO/OSODI-ISOLO
The impact of the new model was fully demonstrated on June 27, 2026, when the Ejigbo/Oshodi-Isolo chapter hosted the General Assembly.
The event drew a massive turnout of members from virtually all LGAs and LCDAs across Lagos State, accompanied by their Chairmen and executives.
The assembly featured vibrant cultural dance performances, traditional masquerade displays, and the presence of respected Igbo stakeholders, market leaders, affiliate organizations, political figures, youth groups, women leaders, and other distinguished personalities.
It was more than a meeting. It was a convergence of “Igbo Bu Igbo” — a reaffirmation of identity, unity, and collective purpose.
REDEFINING MEMBERSHIP AND PARTICIPATION
Under Chief Okafor’s leadership, membership in Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos is being redefined beyond mere identification.
Members are now encouraged to register through the Ohanaeze structure in their domains, maintain financial commitment, attend meetings regularly, support organizational programmes, and contribute to community development.
This renewed emphasis has eliminated passive participation and positioned every Ndigbo in Lagos as a stakeholder in the growth of the organization.
A CALL TO RALLY BEHIND THE VISION
The successes recorded so far are a direct reflection of Chief Leonard Okafor’s unwavering vision to build a united, visible, and impactful Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos.
He has decentralized leadership, deepened inclusion, and restored confidence in the institution.
Ndigbo in Lagos are therefore called to rally behind this vision. Support your LGA and LCDA leadership. Attend the rotational assemblies. Invest in the programmes that are advancing the welfare of our people.
NEXT: ALIMOSHO TAKES THE BATON
All eyes are now on Alimosho LGA and its LCDAs as they prepare to host the July General Monthly Assembly.
Expectations are high for another historic gathering that will further strengthen the ideals of “Igwebuike” — Unity is Strength and advance the mandate of “Weism Maka Oganiru Ndigbo Bi Na Lagos” — Working Together for the Progress and Prosperity of Ndigbo Residing in Lagos State.
The rotational model has set Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos on a new course. With sustained collaboration, the organization will continue to grow stronger and more relevant to Ndigbo at the grassroots.
