Chairman, Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit – “Lagos State Taskforce“

Since taking over, CSP Adetayo Akerele has repositioned the Taskforce as a rapid-response, intelligence-led unit focused on order, safety, and environmental sanitation in line with the Lagos THEMES Plus Agenda.
Key Achievements (June 2024 – June 2025)
- Crime Reduction & Public Safety*
– 14,087 suspects arrested across black spots like Oshodi, Mushin, Iju-Ishaga Railway, Lagos Island, Obalende, Marina, and Ikoyi
After screening: 1,287 released, 12,999 arraigned in court
– 2,276 miscreants, drug addicts, street traders, and hooligans arrested through the bi-weekly “CLEAN UP Enforcement Operation” launched in April
– 53 suspected drug peddlers apprehended in Gowon Estate hideout
– Intensified raids on traffic robbery hotspots: Oshodi, Mile 2, Ikeja Along, Ojota. Weapons recovered and follow-up patrols made routine
- Environmental Sanitation & Urban Renewal
– 1,786 shanties demolished in Ogombo, White Sand, Mile 2, Fagba, Epe, Oworonshoki, Agege and other areas
– Dislodgement of squatters along railway corridors at Pen Cinema, Agege and Fagba-Age. The Fagba-Age operation restored train movement and was commended by the Nigerian Railway Corporation as the most effective in a decade
– 418 hawkers and traders arrested in Ikeja, Obalende, Ikoyi, Eko Hotel Axis, Ipaja. Goods confiscated
– Enforcement at Ikotun bus stop to ease gridlock caused by street traders.
- Traffic & Transportation Enforcement
– 16,625 commercial motorcycles impounded for violating the state ban on restricted routes. Major increase from 6,915 impounded in 2023/early 2024
– 1,019 vehicles impounded from Victoria Island, Apapa, Ikeja, Agege Motor Road, etc. 2 vehicles forfeited to the state via court orders
– *612 vehicles fined and released
- Operational & Judicial Reforms*
– Intelligence-led and humane operations with speedy prosecution via mobile courts in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Justice
– Emphasis on screening before prosecution to ensure transparency and fairness
